Cats & Kittens
Here at Midsomer Veterinary Centre we want to give your cat the healthiest life we can, from a kitten through to old age.
Cat only clinics
Cats would much prefer to be snoozing at home rather than coming to the vets, and they certainly would prefer not to be looking at noisy dogs if they do have to visit us!
To make your trip to the clinic as stress free as possible, we run Cat Only clinics on Wednesday mornings and are trialling Cat-only operating days on Wednesdays too. During these times we try our best to avoid having any dogs in the waiting and consulting rooms.
Of course we are happy to see cats at any times, but it is nice to to know that there are times that you can visit when hustle and bustle is kept to a minimum

Neutering and Microchipping
We are pleased to follow the Cat Group's recommendations and advise neutering from 4 months of age and recommend microchipping of all cats
The Cat Group is an advisory group made up from the British Small Animal Association, the International Society of Feline Medicine, Cat's Protection, RSPCA, PDSA and the Blue Cross.
Neutering reduces unwanted kittens and also reduces the risk of straying, fighting and exposure to diseases such as FIV (similar to HIV in people) and FeLV (feline leukaemia)

Older cats
As cats get older they can begin to experience wear and tear issues such as reduced kidney function, thyroid problems and arthritis.
Regular examinations and monitoring helps us to pick up these diseases and early management keeps your cat in the best health. Simple screening such as urine samples and blood pressure measurement can give an early indication of disease at a stage that it is simple to manage (for example with diet control). Early detection allows better, and easier, management step compared to waiting until a problem is obvious
We offer simple urine screening to all cats and advise it once or twice a year on all cats over 8 years old. For more information just cal the practice on 01761 412132
